“Performers' rights in today's European environment: how to ensure a sustainable creative sector?”
1-2 December 2009
Hotel Amigo
Rue de l'Amigo 1-3
1000 Brussels
The seminar brings together representatives of performers' organisations, intergovernmental organisations for cultural and creative sectors, the European Commission and European Parliament, international institutions, government departments and other experts in intellectual property rights.
Since their introduction in European legislation almost two decades ago, how have performers' rights and their practical implementation progressed?
What challenges and policies dominate today's European IPR environment with respect to performers and their rights management organisations?
The seminar will focus on five major panel discussions:
- Performers' rights in Europe: what has been the impact of EU law?
- The audiovisual debate: what rights for performers and their performances in the audiovisual sector?
- Performers' rights and Internet uses: challenges and policies
- Access to culture and limitations of rights
- The collective management of rights in today's environment
