At its plenary sitting of 15 January 2004, the European Parliament adopted the resolution (=> Download PDF file) tabled by its Committee on Legal Affairs and the Internal Market, which had been authorized in January 2003 to draw up an own-initiative report on a Community framework for collecting societies in the field of copyright and neighbouring rights under rule 163 of the Rules of Procedure of the European Parliament. ++ See also : AEPO position paper, 7 January 2004 and AEPO position paper, 1 December 2003 (PDF file) By adopting this resolution, the Parliament calls on the Commission to put forward proposals in this domain. The Communication from to Commission on the Management of Copyright and Related Rights published on 16 April 2004 is a first reaction to the resolution adopted by the Parliament.
